    Ahn Eak-tai, a Korean composer and conductor, was born in 1906 in Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.

    He was the third son in a relatively wealthy family, with six other siblings. His parents, who owned a hotel business, had dreams of providing their children with a Western education.
